I don’t mean to scare you, but turkey day is dangerous!
Don’t leave Tom unattended!
Evidently it’s not just turkeys that make Thanksgiving dangerous.
In a staff meeting yesterday, we exchanged holiday stories that involved one catastrophe after another (just another example of how we Red Cross workers are not yet perfect, either). While these incidents luckily became entertaining anecdotes soon after they happened, they also serve as reminders that we should all take care and be prepared for emergencies no matter how unexpected.
Catastrophe examples:
Last year an unexpected draft caused our interior door to slam shut just before my aunt was able to get her hand out of its way. Thank goodness for the handy first aid kit!
What is your favorite holiday catastrophe story? Were you prepared to handle it?
And… have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I’ve been to at least 3 home fires caused by people using turkey fryers inside their homes, or by not following the directions. Frozen turkeys in the fryers is bad: the turkeys explode. If you get the trajectory just right (and this poor guy had), it can take off the roof of your house.
