An English Mastiff named Lurch from Livingston, Michigan is having his 15 minutes of fame this week.
He’s donated blood for other dogs some 20 times and was named a hero at the Livingston County Chapter’s Salute to Everyday Heroes last week.
News of the Lurch’s generous ways has been a popular topic both in mainstream news and in the blogosphere for the past week.
He was also featured on several national newscasts, but if the true sign a celebrity has made an indelible cultural impression arrives when the Not Ready for Prime Time Players see fit to tell an off-color joke about you, then Lurch has indeed arrived.
That’s right, Lurch was mentioned during Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update by a visiting Tina Fey last Saturday.
Note: The American Red Cross does not have a dog blood donor program. Find out how a dog becomes a donor.
And, remember to donate blood yourself. You could save up to 3 lives with one pint!
