
Yesterday afternoon severe storms swept across southeastern Virginia resulting in three confirmed tornadoes in Suffolk, Petersburg/Colonial Heights, and near Lawrence in Brunswick County. The storms caused over 200 injuries, damaged homes and businesses, and left approximately 9,000 people without power.
As of 9 a.m. this morning, the local Red Cross response consists of the following:
- The Suffolk Chapter of the Red Cross will be offering supply assistance.
- Southeastern Virginia Chapter has deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to provide canteening services.
- We have disaster assessment teams gathering damage info.
- We have Health Services staff on standby.
