Tornadoes in Southeastern Virginia

Yesterday afternoon severe storms swept across southeastern Virginia resulting in three confirmed tornadoes in Suffolk, Petersburg/Colonial Heights, and near Lawrence in Brunswick County. The storms caused over 200 injuries, damaged homes and businesses, and left approximately 9,000 people without power.

As of 9 a.m. this morning, the local Red Cross response consists of the following:

The Suffolk Chapter of the Red Cross will be offering supply assistance.
Southeastern Virginia Chapter has deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to provide canteening services.
We have disaster assessment teams gathering damage info.
We have Health Services staff on standby.
