Below you’ll find a few ways the American Red Cross is responding to events across the country.
COLORADO – Tornado
Event
A massive tornado swept across Larimer and Weld Counties yesterday, killing one person, injuring dozens, and damaging several buildings and vehicles. The governor has issued a state of emergency for the affected areas.
Red Cross Response
Mile High Regional Chapter in Denver and Centennial Chapter in Fort Collins opened a shelter, deployed an emergency response vehicle (ERV), and partnered with the Salvation Army to feed shelter residents.
CALIFORNIA – wildfires
Event
A fast-moving wildfire in the Santa Cruz Mountains covered 3,000 acres, prompting rescues and evacuations in 2 counties. The fire began before dawn Thursday morning, has burned 12 homes, threatened about 500 homes and 20 businesses.
Red Cross Response
The Ventura County Regional Chapter, Santa Clara Valley Chapter, and Santa Cruz County Chapter opened a shelter, partnered with the Salvation Army for canteening, and set up water for hydration.
KANSAS – Tornadoes / Flooding
Event
Fierce storms overnight brought tornadoes and flash flooding to the Kansas / Nebraska border. As day breaks local emergency management officials will determine the full extent of the damage. Many phones are out but cell service is working.
Red Cross Response
Midway-Kansas Chapter will send out workers this morning for disaster assessment and to identify the needs of families in the affected areas.
