Tweeters Helping Red Cross Spread Info During Grand Canyon Flood

Yesterday a dam burst in the Grand Canyon. As we got word about what was unfolding, our fearless leader Laura Howe took the Red Cross Twitter reigns and started offering resources and information:

RedCross: Grand Canyon Dam Break: Survivors being airlifted out and bused to a Red Cross shelter in Peach Springs. No word on numbers of evacuees.

RedCross: Check Red Cross Safe and Well site if you think loved ones were in Grand Canyon. Evacuees being registered there. www.redcross.org

RedCross: AZ Red Cross: 35 people at shelter for Grand Canyon flood. Many more expected tonight as officials transport people from canyon to shelter.

A funny thing happened after Laura did that. Not only did CNN pick up the stream and air info about the Red Cross response but lots of regular tweeters helped us spread the message as well:

The great news (if there is any in times of disaster) is that this process is repeating itself this morning as Florida braces for Fay:

maddingz: Twitter at its best: retweeting @pbcredcross via @Palm_Beach_Post: The local Red Cross has no shelters open at this time, stay tuned.

Palm_Beach_Post: retweeting @pbcredcross: The local Red Cross has no shelters open at this time, stay tuned to local media for updates or follow @pbcredcross

IrvLee: Red Cross and hurricanes are good sites to follow for the latest on Fay.
