Here’s where a few people’s lives are intersecting with the Red Cross today:
Fay Recovery:
Rochelle is explaining her third day of cleanup after Fay
I never knew exactly what the Red Cross does in a crisis, but now I know one aspect of their help. They were giving away breakfasts of biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs, as well as bottled water. It was such a great way to start today’s work to have a hot breakfast. The Red Cross also handed out buckets with cleaning supplies in it. The contents are great (various sized scrub brushes, a collapsable mop, a collapsable broom, work gloves, rubber gloves, sponge, bleach, and a few other cleaning supplies). I thank them.
On taking Red Cross Health & Safety Classes:
Twin Mama from Bringing Up Twins says:
So after finally figuring out who was going to watch Peanut and Jelly Bean (Thank you, Mom!), I was able to get up early Saturday morning and attend an all day (8:30am to 5pm) course at the Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross. I have never taken a course through the Red Cross before, but I was very pleased by the instructor’s knowledge and professional experience. He has been a paramedic for over 23 years and had quite a few - good and bad - stories to tell us from his time on the job. It was just enough to make me slightly paranoid, but probably was also a good reminder that even though I am gaining experience as a parent and becoming more “relaxed” on the job, I shouldn’t allow myself to get too relaxed with my kids or get too preoccupied with other things.
And for a touch of humor, this comic from Lead Paint Comics:

A lot of people don’t know that the Red Cross forbids the giving of grilled cheese to refugees because it’s just that terrible of a sandwich.
I don’t think that’s true (I’ll check) but it’s funny. Should I now feel bad that I actually like grilled cheese sandwiches?
