I wish that people had the basic necessities in life, a room over the head, food on the table, and clothes on their backs. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Sometimes poverty comes and slaps you on the face no matter where you, no matter who you are. Poverty does not discriminate. Just like a tornado that picks up your house and throws it into the winds, anything can happen, anytime. God forbid.I’m just glad that there are agencies like the Red Cross that help in such cases. They offer all kinds of valuable services.

just do something. Write an email to your Prime Minister/ President – work with a local school to get books out to kids who haven’t got any. Find out what you’re local Red Cross can do to help……or – if you can – buy a kid a laptop.

My colleague Seth Merritt recently highlighted Blog Action Day, and today is the day! This year the topic is poverty, and the aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion about poverty, a complex issue with no quick, easy solutions.
The American Red Cross helps vulnerable people around the world to prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters, complex humanitarian emergencies, and life-threatening health conditions.

Like it or not, poverty is in the US. It has many faces and many causes. While the effects of poverty can be devastating, there are many ways each of use can help.

Screaming at the TV:

Your local Red Cross Chapter, OXFAM and other global organizations dedicated to eliminating poverty and providing basic human needs to the worlds populations. Play Robin Hood – donate, let your voice be heard.

This is a general ad from the Red Cross aimed at trying to get the younger generation to help those less fortunate.

When in doubt, give to the Red Cross. The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and it is committed to providing relief to victims of disasters and helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Can’t afford to send money? Give blood — “the gift of life.”

Ask your Representatives what issues of Poverty are facing your state, if you do not get an answer from them, call your local churches or Red Cross. They will be quick to tell you all that needs to be done.
