National Day of Service: President Gail McGovern Invites You to Join Us
President-elect Barack Obama has called on each of us to volunteer in our communities on Monday, January 19, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, to usher in a new spirit of service.
Every single day the Red Cross plays a part in changing lives forever. On Monday, you too can change a life — starting with your own.
Will you join us at an official Red Cross service event near you?
Join the American Red Cross and USAService.org to learn how to save a life by participating in a CPR training, protect a life by distributing prevention and safety materials in your community or give the gift of life by donating blood.
And since January is National Blood Donor Month, now is the perfect time to do so. Hospitals rely on volunteer donors to supply blood for their daily lifesaving work. Blood donation is a safe process, takes only about an hour and each blood donation can help save up to three lives.
The American Red Cross is holding blood drives and community service events all over the country on January 19.
Sign up for an official Red Cross event in your area or plan your own event now:
At the American Red Cross, every day is a proud day of service. In communities across America every day, we shelter, feed and counsel families and individuals affected by disasters, provide more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members and their families. As we depend on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform our humanitarian mission, we are honored to be part of a national movement to spread that spirit of volunteerism.
As always — thank you for your continued support,
Gail McGovern

If you’re one of the few that have Monday off, or have a floating holiday you can use, I encourage you to pitch in and help out.
