When I lived in California, I donated my blood on a fairly regular basis. I was told it was greatly needed, not necessarily because of my type (B+), but because it is CMV neg. I moved to Utah in 1997 and when I donated here, I got the impression nobody cared that I’m CMV neg. Does it just not matter anymore?
