Thank you so much for doing this! I am from Chile and do not wish any funds to be diverted from Haiti. There are many people hurting in Chile without food shelter or water! The tsunamis and quake were devastating to many people, no need for comparisons, we just need to help as many people as we can. GRACIAS!

Hi Mary – Thanks for asking this question. Gives us a chance to clear it up for everyone.

While the number you text to – 90999 – is the same for both earthquakes, you can choose which designation to make.

To give to Haiti, you text the word Haiti to 90999 and for Chile you text the word Chile to 90999. That way we can keep track of which fund to add your donation to.

We will not divert any money given to Haiti to Chile or vice versa.

Why is Red Cross using the same text number for Haiti to now use for Chile? People are still using the 90999 number for Haiti. Are you now diverting the funds for Haiti to Chile??? The number should not be shut down for Haiti and diverted to Chile… Haiti has much more devistation then Chile.
