When I woke up this morning and was thinking about blogging, I thought about Thanksgiving and how much I personally have to feel grateful for.

One of the things that struck me is that when you’re part of the Red Cross family, you’re more in tune than ever to how fortunate we are. We see people at their most vulnerable. Over the 2.5 years I’ve been here I’ve seen people who lost everything after a hurricane. I saw schoolchildren devastated after an earthquake in China. I saw people in Haiti living under tarps and tents. I saw how grateful those people were because of the assistance the Red Cross was giving them.

It strikes me in this season how very fortunate I am personally. I am so grateful for my good health, that I’m surrounded by friends and family, and that I have the privilege to work with such passionate and caring people in the American Red Cross.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

This week back in 2009 the squirrel photo bomb was everywhere we looked. Remember him?

That squirrel even got into some of our preparedness posters:

This week in 2008 Tropical Storm Fay was born, a dam burst in the Grand Canyon, and we were starting to really see the value of Twitter.

This week in 2007 the Red Cross Blog didn’t exist yet – but it would enter our lives a week later on August 28th! Check out our first post.
