Our President and CEO Gail McGovern and the Business Roundtable’s Michael T. Dan co-authored a Huffington Post article to mark the 5th anniversary since Hurricane Katrina and to explain how corporations and nonprofits partner together for preparedness.

While disasters are inevitable, unfortunately, effective response to them isn’t. With the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina upon us, we’re reminded of the increasingly large role the private sector is playing in disaster relief worldwide, joining forces with non-profit organizations to aid regions hit by natural and man-made disasters.

This week marks 5 years since Hurricane Katrina crashed into our collective lives.

We’ve set up a page on our website that showcases the American Red Cross’s impact on survivors of the storm and we encourage you to watch the videos and read our report.

But, we also know this storm changed many of your lives, so we’d like to simply invite you to share your story in the comments.

Since I’m in no position to discuss Hurricane Katrina from my role at the American Red Cross, I asked a few of the people in the Hurricane Recovery Program and from the Gulf Coast Red Cross chapters to weigh in as we mark the second year of recovery.
