From the field – Casualties in Syria rising
Rabab Al Rifai, our spokesperson in Damascus, describes an increasingly tense situation across Syria, with casualties mounting and displacement on the increase.
Assessing the humanitarian situation in Homs and delivering much needed relief aid in the city’s worst-hit areas has been a focus for our colleagues in recent days.
There and elsewhere, the security of civilians is a major concern.
Joint ICRC-Syrian Red Crescent teams working across the country respond as soon as possible to emergencies but too many families remain in need. The security of staff working in the field is another concern.
Based on our own assessments on the ground, we intend in coming weeks and months to assist 1.5 million people directly or indirectly affected by the fighting.
