From the Columbus Telegram:
Heather Waite, of Lincoln, submitted the winning design last fall, depicting a comic book-style rendition of first responders and health-care workers representing the chapter’s six-county service area.
“I knew the criteria was to include all six county names of Boone, Butler, Colfax, Nance, Platte and Polk,” Waite said. “Rather than painting the names on the wall, I decided to incorporate them into the design.
“I decided each scene would depict something about the various Red Cross services. Each worker or volunteer involved would have the name of a county on their name tag, uniform, or some object,” she said.
The central figure in Waite’s design is the archetypal “Superman” character proudly displaying the Red Cross symbol on his chest.
