A short while ago we shared with you how the momentum is building in support of our flagship global health program – the Measles Initiative. Next week, we’ll have an important opportunity to share our accomplishments with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other world leaders.
With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (that’s what MDGs stands for), he has organized a summit in New York Sept. 20 – 22. Once together, policy makers will look at the progress made to date and discuss ways to accelerate global efforts to:
Thanks to your support over the last decade, we have good news to share on goal #4.
Nearly 25% of the total progress for MDG 4 – the goal aimed at curbing child deaths – was achieved through mass measles vaccination campaigns and improvements to routine immunization.
The Red Cross and its partners will convene two side events at the summit to share this and other accomplishments, but the real action is taking place online and in your communities.
