Winter Weather Forecast Across the Country

We’re seeing snowflakes in our forecast here in Washington, D.C. – and so are many other states. Stay warm and stay informed!

Severe winter weather is expected in many areas of the U.S. this week. Red Cross chapters are prepared to respond, providing shelter, food, and other assistance as needed.

…SNOW…SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN CONTINUE TO SPREAD OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES…

WINTER STORM WATCHES…WARNINGS…AND ADVISORIES ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF THE DEEP SOUTH…AND EXTENDING EASTWARD INTO
THE CAROLINAS. FREEZING RAIN ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF CENTRAL ALABAMA.

AT 800 AM CST…A 1010 MB…29.83 INCH…SURFACE LOW PRESSURE CENTER WAS LOCATED IN THE NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO…JUST SOUTH OF THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADARS AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATED A LARGE SWATH OF MIXED PRECIPITATION FALLING TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF THIS LOW. LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WAS REPORTED FROM EASTERN TENNESSEE AND EXTENDING EASTWARD INTO NORTH CAROLINA.

FURTHER SOUTH…SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WAS OBSERVED OVER NORTHEASTERN ALABAMA…CENTRAL AND NORTHERN GEORGIA…AND INTO SOUTH CAROLINA. IN SOUTHERN GEORGIA AND INTO FLORIDA…PRECIPITATION WAS TAKING THE FORM OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
